Are there low carb coffees?

Everyone loves their morning cup of coffee and for some it is a necessity. Technically, coffee does not have any carbs, so all brands of coffees are low carb. However, consuming caffeine can raise blood sugar levels which can wreak havoc on your low carb diet!

In addition, even though by themselves all coffees are low carb coffees, the sugar and milk you put in them are not. So, even if you are lucky enough to be able to continue drinking coffee without it affecting blood sugar and throwing your weight loss in a tail spin, you will have to monitor what you add in to make sure you keep carb count down.

Here’s some tips for keeping your coffees low carb:

  • Cut down on consumption. Drinking less might help keep your blood sugar levels from rising due to caffeine consumption
  • Switch to decaff
  • Use heavy cream instead of flavored creamers. Heavy cream has 0 carbs per serving, flavored creamers may be loaded with carbs.
  • Use Splenda in your low carb coffees instead of sugar.
