Low Carb Diet and Exercise

Combining a low carb diet and exercise is a great way to get in shape and boost your weight loss. It is well know that you burn more calories, even at rest, if you have more muscle mass so exercising helps in 2 ways - the acutal amount you burn while exercising and by adding muscle that will help you burn more even while you sleep! Exercising gives a boost to your metabolism that will result in higher calorie burn even hours after the exercise is over.

There are no special rules to combining a low carb diet and exercise.

There are some reports that being on a low carb diet reduces your athletic performance, but this is mostly a concern for athletes and makes little difference to the average person who just wants to get in shape.

Aside from burning calories, exercise has many benefits. Increased muscle mass makes you stronger and your body look firmer. You’ll be able to move around more easily and be much more flexible. Exercise can help reduce stress and is well known to be good for your heart and cardiovascular system. Some exercise can even help increase bone density and aid in the fight against osteoporosis.

Combining a low carb diet with exercise doesn’t mean that you have to do grueling gym workouts or run a marathon. Anything new exercise you do will help! Of course, check with your doctor before starting any exercise regime.

There is nothing wrong with starting off slow. Add a few exercises a day. Once you get the doctors OK - buy some light hand weights and try some simple curls - you can even do this while you are watching TV! Start off slow and don’t overdo it - add a little more each day and soon you will see that you are looking forward to your exercise time each day!

Eventually, your low carb diet and exercise program can be expanded to include other exercises to include cardio workouts, yoga, pilates or even a home gym! There’s a ton of fun ways to exercise like trampolines and water exercises. You should be able to find something that you like to do - the key is that it has to be something you enjoy so that you will keep doing it and even look forward to doing it.

One of the simplest, least expensive and easiest exercise routines that I use in my low carb diet and exercise regime is walking. Yep, just plain old walking. I love to be outside and look at nature so this is perfect for me. I try to walk at a fast pace, but not overdo it as I want it to be enjoyable - some days I go faster than others but I make sure that I always look forward to my walk. I try to walk about 2 miles every day but on the days that I don’t feel like it, I don’t beat myself up about it, I just make a promise to do it the next day.
