Which Low Carb Diet Plan Will Work For You?

South Beach Diet™: Hundreds of recipes and 24-hour support!

Is every low carb diet plan alike? They are pretty similar but with subtle differences. Maybe you tried one and couldn’t stick with it and are looking to find one that suits your tastes better? I know how demoralizing it can be to “fail” yet another diet, so it’s best to start off with one that suits your tastes and eating patterns so that you have a better chance at success! Here’s some tips on how to pick a low carb diet plan that you might be able to stick with.

Can’t Get Past Induction?
The induction phase is common between the Atkins Diet and South Beach Diet. It is a 2 week restrictive phase where your carbohydrate intake is very limited. That means you will be eating mostly meats, fish, eggs, cheese and leafy green veggies. If you don’t think that you can stomach this for 2 weeks ( I know I couldn’t) then these 2 low carb diet plans are out.

Don’t make your self feel like a failure because you cannot stick to this restrictive way of eating.

If you can, however, once the phase is passed you will be able to gradually add in more fruits and veggies and maybe eventually a piece of whole wheat bread or 2 – plus you will see quite a bit of weight loss in the first 2 weeks to keep you motivated.

Love Meats – Hate Fruits
Although every low carb diet plan can be made to work with lots of meat and no fruit, the Atkins Low Carb Diet Plan is the original meat eaters plan. Try this diet, but stick to low fat meats and include lots of vegetables if you will not be eating fruit.

Hate Meat – Love Fruit and Veggies
Contrary to popular belief a low carb diet plan can work without eating lots of meat. You will need a protein source, such as soy or eggs or fish or chicken if your adversity is to red meat. The South Beach Diet Plan is more lenient towards fruits (after the induction phase) so you may want to give it a try if you think you can survive the first 2 weeks.

Prefer One Large Meal With Dessert
If you like to eat only 1 large meal per day and can’t give up dessert, then check out the Carbohydrate Addicts Plan. It instructs you to eat 1 “reward” meal per day that has equal amounts of protein, low glycemic carbohydrates and high glycemic carbohydrates. The hard part is getting enough protein in to balance the high glycemic carbs.

Like to eat several balanced meals and snacks
The Zone Diet might be the low carb diet plan for you. It works by balancing the protein, carbohydrate and fat portions in every meal and snack that you eat. This diet lets you include whatever foods you want as long as the protein and carb amounts are proportionate. I like this one the best myself, since it allows me to include lots of fruits and nuts.
